Holy Island & Alnwick Castle Day Trip
On the morning of your activity, meet in Edinburgh city centre to board a luxury coach heading south into northeast England. The scenic coastal route offers views over the rugged landscape. The first stop is Holy Island, known for its history since the 6th century. Connected to the mainland village of Lindisfarne by a tidal causeway, it has been a pilgrimage destination since the Middle Ages. You can explore the ruins of the Priory, the ancient Castle, and sample traditional mead brewed by monks.
Next, you'll head to Alnwick, a market town home to the 11th-century Alnwick Castle. You will have time to stroll around the town center or explore the castle complex and its gardens, including the Grand Cascade, which was a filming location for Harry Potter.
Afterward, make your way back north, crossing the River Tweed into Coldstream, near the English-Scottish border. Time permitting, stop at the well-preserved Flodden Field, site of the 1513 battle where James IV, King of Scots, died.
You will return to Edinburgh around 6:15 pm.
