Holy Island & Alnwick Castle Day Trip
On the morning of your activity, meet in Edinburgh's city centre before boarding a luxury coach. Your journey will take you south through the scenic coastal route into northeast England.
The first stop will be Holy Island, with a history dating back to the 6th century. Connected to the village of Lindisfarne by a tidal causeway, this site has been a pilgrimage destination since the Middle Ages. You’ll have the opportunity to explore the ruins of the Priory, the ancient Castle, and taste the traditional mead brewed by monks.
Next, head to Alnwick, a lively market town housing the 11th-century Alnwick Castle. Here, you can stroll around the town or explore the Medieval castle complex and its gardens, including the Grand Cascade. The grounds were used as a filming location in Harry Potter.
Later, return north, crossing the River Tweed into Coldstream, on the English-Scottish border. If time permits, visit the well-preserved Flodden Field, the site of the 1513 battle that resulted in the death of James IV, King of Scots.
You’ll return to Edinburgh around 6:15 pm.
