Discover why El Chalten is known as Patagonia's hiking capital when you take this trip to the "youngest town in Argentina".
El Chalten Trip
After collecting you in the morning from your hotel in El Calafate, we'll head to El Chalten via the 'Ruta 40' road, which borders Argentino Lake and crosses over the Santa Cruz River. During the drive, you will learn about the experiences of Darwin and Fitz Roy in this area.
We'll stop at the settlement of La Leona along the river of the same name for a break, where you can enjoy a coffee and traditional homemade pastry (not included). Next, we will continue along the shorelines of Viedma Lake while enjoying views of the Torre and Fitz Roy mountain ranges.
Upon reaching El Chalten, officially founded in the 1970s, we will visit the town's Interpretation Centre. After this, we will travel by minibus to an Operational Base, where you will have free time for a hike at your leisure. A map of the trails will be provided, along with a picnic that contains two ham and cheese sandwiches, a piece of fruit, a sweet treat, and a bottle of water.
After your free time in the area, we will regroup to start our return journey to Calafate, where you will be dropped off.
