Discover the amazing Lago del Desierto at your own pace when you take this fantastic trip from El Chaltén. You'll see the vast lake and the surrounding forests and mountains, with an opportunity to hike across the Huemul Glacier.

Lago del Desierto Trip

We will pick you up from your hotel at 10 am. The trip to Lago del Desierto takes just over one hour, with stops to admire the landscapes of Patagonia.

Upon arrival, you will have approximately five hours to explore the area. You can choose to navigate the lake on one of the tourist boats or take a hike up to the Huemul Glacier. If you stay at the lake's shores, you can enjoy views of Mount Fitz Roy, which rises 11,000 feet. Strolling around the lake, you will notice the abundant vegetation of the Patagonian forests, including native white oaks and Antarctic beeches.

After about five hours in this natural wilderness, we'll return you to your hotel, arriving around 5:30 pm.

Optional activities

Boat ride

For a 45-minute boat trip around Lago del Desierto, you need to purchase your ticket in cash when you arrive at the lake. The ticket price is 16000 ARS.

Boat departure times: In January and February, departures are at 12 pm and 2 pm; in March and from November to December, the boat departs at 12 pm.

Hike

To hike along the Huemul Glacier, pay the hiking route access fee in cash, which is 600 ARS. The 2-kilometer (1.2-mile) route takes about an hour and a half round trip.
