Visit to the Mayo Indigenous Community
Around the scheduled time, our team will meet you at your hotel in El Fuerte and transport you to a Mayo Indigenous Peoples community, offering an insightful glimpse into their ancestral way of life, which flourishes in the lands between southern Sonora and northern Sinaloa.
Upon arrival, you will engage in conversations with the community members, who identify themselves as Yoreme, translating to "people who honor tradition." Interestingly, evidence suggests that the Yoreme region has been inhabited since approximately 180 BC.
Following our introduction, some locals will demonstrate the preparation of traditional tortillas and antojitos. These delicious corn-based dishes are typically served with chili sauce as a savory starter. Would you be interested in tasting them?
As part of our experience in this indigenous setting, we will have the chance to witness ancestral dances. Have you heard of the deer dance? You will observe how the Mayo/Yoreme utilize dance to narrate the life cycle and significance of their most revered animal, providing a fascinating cultural experience!
After approximately two hours of exploration, we will conclude our visit and reconvene at the designated meeting spot in El Fuerte.
