Mayo Indigenous Community Tour
At the indicated time, we'll pick you up at your hotel in El Fuerte and head to a community of Mayo Indigenous Peoples to learn about their ancestral culture located between the south of Sonora and the north of Sinaloa.
Upon arrival, we will speak with community residents, who identify as Yoreme, meaning "people who respect tradition." The first traces of settlement in the Yoreme region date back to 180 BC.
Next, some community members will demonstrate how typical tortillas and antojitos are prepared. These corn-based foods are usually accompanied by a chili sauce and are served as an appetizer.
During our visit to this indigenous community, we will also witness popular ancestral dances, including the dance of the deer, where the Mayo/Yoreme use movement to represent the life and death of their most sacred animal.
After two hours, we will conclude the activity and return to the meeting point in El Fuerte.
