On this tour of the Amazigh market in the Haha Region, south of Essaouira, we'll explore rural Moroccan life and visit an argan oil cooperative.
Description
At the scheduled time, we'll meet at 287 Rue Oued El Makhazine and proceed to the Amazigh town of Ida Ogourd in the southeast of Essaouira. Participants will experience the local market, characterized by distinct smells, textures, and colors.
This weekly market showcases the authenticity of local life, where locals shop and socialize in a vibrant setting. Daily life unfolds around deep-rooted traditions, including the popular use of donkeys, evident from the distinct 'Donkey Parking' nearby.
Market stalls will feature fresh vegetables, exotic fruits, spices, and services such as blacksmiths, welders, shoemakers, and barbers. The experience concludes with a tea break amidst the lively atmosphere.
Before returning to Essaouira, we'll visit an argan cooperative, where we will learn about the production process of this valuable oil, known as the Gold of Morocco. The tour includes insights into the extraction performed by Amazigh women and a tasting of the oil.
The tour lasts 3.5 hours, concluding back at the starting point after an immersion in Amazigh traditions.
