Tour Description

At the specified time, we will meet at the Castello Estense to commence a 2.5-hour private tour of Ferrara. Ferrara was ruled by the Estense Lordship for more than 300 years and has been a World Heritage Site since 1995. It is recognized as the Italian capital of cycling.

The tour begins in the courtyard of Castello Estense, notable for its imposing structure which transitioned from a fortress to a ducal residence for the Estense family. You will observe its terraces, balconies, and towers.

Next, we will visit Piazza Savonarola and Piazza Cattedrale, where the magnificent façade of the Romanesque-Gothic cathedral and the Ducal Palace, now the Town Hall, are located. Nearby is the Loggia dei Merciai, a historical business hub from the Middle Ages.

We will continue along the medieval streets to the oldest part of the city, including Via delle Volte, where we will discuss the significance of the Po River and its ancient ports. In the medieval section, we will navigate the narrow streets of the Jewish ghetto, which was home to a prominent Jewish community.

Finally, before arriving at Corso Ercole I d'Este, we will pass Antica Enoteca Al Brindisi, the oldest tavern still in operation since before 1435. The tour concludes at the Palazzo dei Diamanti, a late 15th-century structure.
