On this private tour of Ferrara, you'll explore its medieval alleys and Renaissance boulevards with a guide exclusively for you.
Tour Description
At the indicated time, we'll meet at the Castello Estense to start a 2.5-hour private tour of Ferrara. Ferrara was ruled by the Estense Lordship for over 300 years and has been a World Heritage Site since 1995. It is recognized as the Italian capital of cycling.
The tour begins in the courtyard of Castello Estense, a symbol of the city that was initially built as a fortress and later became a ducal residence for the Estense family. Visitors will see its terraces, balconies, and impressive towers.
Next, we will visit Piazza Savonarola and Piazza Cattedrale, featuring the grand Romanesque-Gothic cathedral façade and the Ducal Palace, which is now the Town Hall. Nearby, the Loggia dei Merciai served as a marketplace in the Middle Ages.
We will walk through the medieval streets and head to the oldest part of the city, including Via delle Volte, learning about the Po River and its historical ports. The still intact narrow streets of the Jewish ghetto will also be explored, highlighting one of Italy's thriving Jewish communities.
The visit concludes at the Palazzo dei Diamanti, a late 15th-century building, marking the end of this historical journey.
