On this private tour of Ferrara, you'll visit its medieval alleys and Renaissance boulevards with a guide exclusively for you.
Tour Description
At the designated time, we'll meet at the Castello Estense to start a 2.5-hour private tour of Ferrara. The Estense Lordship ruled Ferrara for over 300 years and it has been a World Heritage Site since 1995. It's also recognized as the Italian capital of cycling.
The tour begins in the courtyard of Castello Estense, a fortress transformed into a ducal residence for the Estense family. You will observe its terraces, balconies, and impressive towers.
Next, we will head to Piazza Savonarola and Piazza Cattedrale, featuring the Romanesque-Gothic cathedral and the Ducal Palace, which currently houses the Town Hall. Nearby is the Loggia dei Merciai, historically a marketplace.
We will walk through the medieval streets to the oldest part of the city, including Via delle Volte, discussing the significance of the Po River and its ancient ports. Additionally, we will explore the narrow streets of the Jewish ghetto.
Before concluding at Corso Ercole I d'Este, we will pass by the Antica Enoteca Al Brindisi, the oldest tavern in the world, established before 1435. The tour will end at the Palazzo dei Diamanti, a late 15th-century building.
