Florianópolis Free Walking Tour

Architecture, urban legends, and traditions are combined in this free tour of Florianópolis. Discover the history of the capital of Santa Catarina.

Description

At the scheduled time, we will meet at the stairs of the Metropolitan Cathedral to begin this free tour around Florianópolis. We will explore the historic center, known as Floripa, and learn about its important monuments and buildings.

We will discuss the first inhabitants of the island of Santa Catarina, including the indigenous tribes from the 17th century, and the arrival of Portuguese colonisers and African slaves.

Our route will include the Cruz e Sousa Palace, the former headquarters of the State Government, and the November 15th Square. Next, we will explore Largo da Alfândega and the Public Market, then visit the Nossa Senhora do Rosário dos Homens Pretos Church and the Álvaro de Carvalho Theatre.

We will walk down Hercílio Luz Avenue to reach the Santa Bárbara Fort. This 2-hour guided visit will conclude at the Miramar Memorial.
