Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge Excursion
At 7:30 am, hotel pick-up in La Fortuna will commence for the journey to the Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge.
During a two-hour drive, we will traverse the San Carlos Plain to Los Chiles, a village with origins in fishing and rubber work. The route showcases local crops like pineapple and sugar cane, key contributors to the Costa Rican economy.
Upon arrival, we will board a boat for a scenic ride along the Frío River, located along the border between Costa Rica and Nicaragua in a significant wetland area known as the Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge.
Caño Negro serves as a protected area for endangered species; numerous animals thrive due to the river. While navigating its banks, sightings may include monkeys, sloths, iguanas, turtles, and caimans. Additionally, from February to April, an influx of migratory birds can be observed.
After a two-hour boat ride, a typical lunch will be provided before returning to La Fortuna, concluding the excursion with a hotel drop-off around 3:30 pm.
