Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge Excursion
At 7:30 am, we will pick you up at your hotel in La Fortuna and travel to the Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge.
The journey lasts two hours as we cross the San Carlos Plain towards the village of Los Chiles, known for its history with fishermen and rubber workers. We will observe local crops such as pineapple and sugar cane.
Upon arrival, we will board a boat for a ride along the banks of the Frío River, located on the border between Costa Rica and Nicaragua. The Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge is one of the country’s significant wetland areas.
Caño Negro is a protected area for endangered species; hundreds of animals rely on the river. As we cruise, we may spot monkeys, sloths, iguanas, turtles, and caimans. From February to April, migratory birds visit this protected area.
After a two-hour boat ride, we will enjoy a typical lunch before returning to La Fortuna. We will drop you off at your hotel around 3:30 pm.
