Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge Excursion
At 7:30 am, we'll pick you up at your hotel in La Fortuna to begin our journey to the Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge.
After a two-hour drive crossing the San Carlos Plain to the village of Los Chiles, we will pass through areas of local crops such as pineapple and sugar cane, significant to the Costa Rican economy.
Upon arrival, we will board a boat for a ride along the banks of the Frío River, which forms part of the Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge, a notable wetland area located on the border with Nicaragua.
This refuge is a protected area for endangered species, providing habitat for various animals. During the cruise, we may spot monkeys, sloths, iguanas, turtles, and caimans. In February, March, and April, numerous migratory birds inhabit the area.
