Cruise along the banks of the Frío River while you observe the great variety of fauna and flora of the Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge on this excursion from La Fortuna.

Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge Excursion

At 7:30 am, we will pick you up at your hotel in La Fortuna and travel to the Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge.

After a two-hour journey, we will reach the village of Los Chiles. The route showcases local crops such as pineapple and sugar cane, significant to the Costa Rican economy.

Upon arrival, we will board a boat for a ride along the banks of the Frío River. This area marks the border between Costa Rica and Nicaragua and is known as one of the country's prominent wetland areas.

Caño Negro serves as a protected area for endangered species, supporting diverse wildlife. As we navigate the river, sightings may include monkeys, sloths, iguanas, turtles, and caimans. During February, March, and April, migratory birds are also prevalent in this sanctuary.

Following a two-hour boat ride, a typical lunch will be provided before we return to La Fortuna. The excursion concludes with drop-off at your hotel, arriving around 3:30 pm.
