Excursion to Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge
The adventure begins at 7:30 am when we will collect you from your accommodation in La Fortuna to set out for the Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge.
Our journey takes approximately two hours as we traverse the San Carlos Plain, making our way towards the charming village of Los Chiles, which has historical ties to fishing and rubber cultivation. Throughout this ride, you'll have the chance to observe fields filled with local produce such as pineapples and sugar cane, both crucial to Costa Rica's agricultural sector.
Upon reaching our destination, we will board a boat for a delightful ride along the banks of the Frío River. This area, situated on the border of Costa Rica and Nicaragua, is home to the Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge, a notable wetland region in the country!
Caño Negro serves as a sanctuary for endangered species, with the river playing a vital role in supporting numerous animals. As we glide along the waterway, keep an eye out for various wildlife including monkeys, sloths, iguanas, turtles, and even caimans. Additionally, during February, March, and April, this protected area becomes a haven for many migratory birds.
Following our two-hour boat excursion, we will savor a delightful traditional lunch before making our way back to La Fortuna. We anticipate returning to your hotel by approximately 3:30 pm, completing a day filled with exploration and adventure.
