Private Excursion in Castelli Romani
The tour begins at 9:30 am, where we will convene at the Frascati train station. Following a brief introduction, we’ll embark by car towards our initial stop, Castel Gandolfo, located merely 20 minutes away.
Upon our arrival, we will embark on a guided exploration of this charming town, taking in the views of the Pope's summer residence. Interestingly, it was Alexander VII who became the first bishop of Rome to enjoy vacations at the Papal Palace of Castel Gandolfo. Throughout our visit, we will delve into the contributions of the renowned Italian sculptor Gian Lorenzo Bernini to this remarkable site.
Our journey will continue alongside Lake Albano as we make our way to Nemi, one of the tiniest yet most picturesque villages in the Castelli Romani area, where breathtaking panoramas of the neighboring hills await. Following this, we will proceed to Rocca di Papa to admire the stunning facade of its historical 12th-century castle and uncover the town's intriguing history as a place that withstood World War II.
As the day draws to a close, we will explore Frascati, wandering through its quaint historic center and visiting a local winery to sample its renowned white wine, paired with a traditional Italian aperitif. While savoring these delights, we’ll share insights into how the volcanic soils of the region influence vine cultivation and the unique flavors imparted to the local grapes.
The excursion will conclude back at our meeting point at 12:30 pm.
