Pico do Arieiro + Sunrise Hike

On this sunrise hike of Pico do Arieiro and Pico Ruivo, you will explore Madeira's landscapes at dawn.

Activity Details

You will be picked up from your hotel in a minibus and taken to Pico do Arieiro, the third-highest peak on Madeira Island.

Upon arrival, you will begin the ascent on foot, following the digital map's instructions. The first stop will be at the viewpoint near Pousada do Pico do Arieiro, with views of São Roque do Faial and Fajã da Nogueira.

After reaching Pico do Arieiro, the hike continues on Vereda del Burro, lasting approximately 5 hours, through rocky terrain and narrow paths, starting from an altitude of 5921 ft (1805 m). You will see the valley of Ribeira do Cidrão and the plateau of Paul da Serra, along with Poço da Neve, a historical snow storage facility.

The hike concludes at the Reception Center of the Ecological Park, featuring rich flora and fauna, with an option for hot chocolate at Restaurante Barracão.

The hike to Pico Ruivo lasts around 5 hours, culminating with rewarding views. Then, you will continue the tour by minibus through coastal towns like Machico and Santa Cruz, before returning to your hotel approximately 8 hours after pickup.
