Fúquene Hiking & Boat Tour

In this activity we'll go on a hiking route and take a boat ride on the Fúquene lagoon. In addition, we'll discover the legends, culture, nature and secrets of the area, a complete experience!

Fúquene Hiking & Boat Tour

We'll meet at 9 am at the port of the Fúquene lagoon. There we'll board a boat for an hour-and-a-half ride on this lake located at an altitude of more than 2,400 metres (7874 feet) above sea level.

During the trip, we'll pass by the island of El Santuario, where several Muisca temples were located. Legend has it that Fu, a god with the tail and head of a fox and a human body who protected the cannibal muzos, lived under the waters of the lake. During the tour we'll also see some of the birds that inhabit this area, such as blackbirds and American coots.

Afterwards, we'll disembark and start a one-and-a-half-hour hiking route along the tracks of the old Fúquene railway. We'll walk to a tunnel that goes deep into the mountain while discussing the properties of the endemic plants.

After the walk, we'll enjoy a traditional dish of vegetables and rice. With renewed energy, we'll attend a reed basket-making workshop, where we will learn about the treatment of fibres and the collection of raw materials on the river bank.

Finally, we'll return to the starting point, concluding the activity at 3 pm.
