Fúquene Hiking & Boat Tour

In this activity we'll go on a hiking route and take a boat ride on the Fúquene lagoon. In addition, we'll discover the legends, culture, nature, and secrets of the area.

Fúquene Hiking & Boat Tour

We'll meet at 9 am at the port of the Fúquene lagoon. There we'll board a boat for an hour-and-a-half ride on this lake located at an altitude of more than 2,400 metres (7,874 feet) above sea level.

During the trip, we'll pass by the island of El Santuario, where several Muisca temples were located. Legend has it that Fu, a deity with the tail and head of a fox, lived under the waters of the lake. We will also observe birds such as blackbirds and American coots.

After the boat ride, we'll disembark and start a one-and-a-half-hour hiking route along the tracks of the old Fúquene railway. We will walk to a tunnel that goes deep into the mountain while discussing the properties of endemic plants.

Following the hike, we'll have a traditional dish of vegetables and rice. Afterwards, we will attend a reed basket-making workshop, learning about the treatment of fibers and how the raw material is collected.

Finally, we'll return to the starting point, concluding the activity at 3 pm.
