Fúquene Hiking & Boat Tour

We will meet at 9 am at the port of the Fúquene lagoon for a boat ride. The ride lasts one and a half hours on the lake situated at over 2,400 meters (7874 feet) above sea level. During the journey, we will pass the island of El Santuario, known for its historical Muisca temples, and discuss the local legend of Fu, a deity said to inhabit the waters. Birdwatching opportunities are available, including sightings of blackbirds and American coots.

Following the boat trip, we will embark on a one-and-a-half-hour hiking route along the tracks of the old Fúquene railway, leading to a tunnel in the mountain, where we will discuss endemic plant properties.

After the hike, we will enjoy a traditional dish featuring vegetables and rice. The activity continues with a reed basket-making workshop, where we will learn about fiber treatment and raw material collection along the riverbank.

We will conclude our tour by returning to the starting point at 3 pm.
