On this day trip to the El Chato Ranch for giant tortoises, we will visit the main conservation centers and volcanic landscapes on Santa Cruz Island in the Galápagos.
El Chato Ranch Giant Tortoise Tour
At the scheduled time, we will pick you up from your hotel in Santa Cruz Island to begin the tour. We will set off towards the higher part of the island.
Our first stop will be at Los Gemelos, two craters formed by the collapse of giant air chambers. Here, we can see the Escalesia Forest, endemic to the Galápagos, and spot birds such as Mary's Canary and the Wren.
Next, we'll arrive at the El Chato Ranch, a private ranch where giant tortoises live in their natural habitat. We will walk along green trails and observe these reptiles that can grow up to 1.5 meters (4 ft 11 in) and weigh over 250 kg (551 lbs). We will also enjoy a country snack that includes a hot drink.
Nearby, we will explore the lava tunnels of Santa Cruz Island, once rivers of hot lava. We will walk through these formations to experience their passageways.
After 3 hours of enjoying the Galápagos' nature, we will return you to your hotel in Santa Cruz.
