4-Day Cruise of the South Galapagos Islands
Day 1: Arrival at Baltra Island & Exploration of Santa Cruz Island
Your adventure begins as we greet you at the Galapagos Islands Airport on Baltra Island. From there, you'll be escorted to your vessel, where a delightful lunch awaits. Our first destination will be Puerto Ayora on Santa Cruz Island.
After arriving on Santa Cruz, we will explore the Charles Darwin Research Station, dedicated to the research and preservation initiatives of the Galapagos.
As the day concludes, we’ll enjoy dinner aboard the boat while setting sail towards South Plaza Island.
Day 2: Discovering South Plaza & Santa Fé Islands
The day starts with a hearty breakfast before we head ashore at South Plaza Island, adjacent to Santa Cruz. Here, we'll embark on a hike along the rocky trails, allowing us to appreciate the island's distinct flora. It’s interesting to note that this island is home to one of the largest populations of land iguanas in the Galapagos.
As we explore, keep an eye out for these yellowish-brown iguanas, known for their size. We’ll stroll along the cliffs and observe swallow-tailed gulls, frigate birds, tropical birds, and the iconic blue-footed boobies.
Afterward, we will return to the catamaran for lunch as we sail over to Santa Fé Island. Once we anchor at one of the most picturesque coves in the Galapagos, we’ll disembark for a memorable boat ride through the turquoise lagoon. We’ll also have the chance to view a large sea lion colony and the unique iguanas found in this area, distinct from those encountered on South Plaza.
In the evening, we’ll enjoy dinner while cruising towards Santiago Island.
Day 3: Santiago Island (Bartolomé Island & Sombrero Chino)
After savoring breakfast, our journey continues with a visit to Bartolomé Island. This small isle, situated across from Santiago Island, features extraordinary rock formations like Pinnacle Rock. We will also get a chance to see sea lions, penguins, and both black and white-tip sharks. Be on the lookout for mangroves!
After returning to the boat for lunch, we’ll explore the south side of Santiago Island, venturing to Sombrero Chino. Here, a hiking adventure awaits us through volcanic landscapes. We’ll arrive at a beach with soft white sand, where we can observe sea lions and rock crabs. Our walk will take us along lava trails and through solidified volcanic tubes, where we’ll learn fascinating insights into the local ecosystem.
As the day winds down, we will enjoy a fulfilling dinner onboard while heading towards Mosquera Island.
Day 4: Exploration of Daphne and Baltra Islands
On our final day, we will navigate around Daphne Island, composed of two volcanic formations designated for scientific studies. This site is famous for the two-decade research on Darwin's finches.
Our adventure concludes as we transport you back to Baltra Island, home to the Galapagos Islands Airport.
