What to Anticipate
The day begins with your collection from Kinlay Hostel in the heart of Galway. From there, the bus will lead us southward along the Wild Atlantic Way, showcasing some of the most awe-inspiring landscapes in Ireland. Additionally, we will traverse the quaint villages of Clarenbridge, Kilcogan, Ballindereen, and Ballyvaughan, known for their historical significance including medieval ruins and 16th-century homes, deeply rooted in Irish folklore.
Visiting the Cliffs of Moher
The first highlight of our journey will be the legendary Cliffs of Moher. Stretching over 8 kilometers (5 miles) and rising to a height of 210 meters (688 feet), these cliffs are celebrated as one of Ireland's most stunning natural features. Keep an eye out for intriguing local wildlife; cormorants and puffins frequently inhabit the area!
Exploring Inisheer
After savoring the magnificent views and capturing photos, we will proceed to Doolin. Here, we’ll board a ferry that will take us to the smallest of the three Aran Islands: Inisheer. During the approximately 30-minute ride, stay alert for potential dolphin sightings in the waters!
Upon your arrival, you will have the freedom to discover at your own pace. Although Inisheer is the smallest of the islands, it offers a wealth of experiences. Immerse yourself in the rich Irish culture and explore the beautiful natural surroundings. You can visit the ruins of St. Cavan's Church dating back to the 10th century, alongside the infamous Plassey shipwreck, a notable vessel that came ashore during a fierce storm in the 1960s!
After enjoying your time on the island, we will make our way back to the mainland. This return route provides another opportunity to view the Cliffs of Moher from a different angle, so be sure to have your camera ready! Once back on land, you’ll have an additional hour to explore the area's summit independently.
Finally, we’ll board the bus for the journey back to Galway, concluding our enriching 10-hour day of exploration.
