Galway Free Walking Tour
On the day of the tour, we'll meet next to the Spanish Arch and begin our free tour of Galway. The tour will take us through the lively city of Galway while discussing its history. Once a small fishing village, Galway is now a modern university town and a gateway to the Connemara National Park.
We will explore the charming narrow streets and discuss the city's founding by 14 merchant families in the fifteenth century, leaving behind legacies like the Lynch Castle and the Collegiate Church of St. Nicholas.
The route will include a stop at the church, where we'll discuss claims of Christopher Columbus visiting before his journey to the Americas. Additionally, we will visit the Galway harbor area, highlighting its history dating back to the 12th century, when Clan O'Connor built a fort at the mouth of the Corrib River.
Two hours later, we'll conclude the free tour of Galway at a lookout point with views of the river, perfect for souvenir photos.
