Discover one of Ireland's most culturally rich cities on this walking tour of Galway. We'll explore iconic historic landmarks and neighborhoods while learning about the city's history.

Galway Walking Tour

At the indicated time, we'll meet outside St Columba's Credit Union office on the edge of Eyre Square to begin this walking tour.

Starting from our meeting point, we'll walk around Eyre Square, where we'll see The Browne Doorway, moved to Eyre Square in 1905, marking its historical significance.

Another landmark in the park is the Quincentennial Fountain, designed by architect Eamon O'Doherty and inaugurated in 1984 to commemorate the 500th anniversary of Galway City as a borough.

Next, we'll visit Lynch's Castle, a 16th-century structure currently housing a bank. Once owned by a powerful family, it also operated as a hotel at one point.

The tour continues at the Galway Market, open year-round on Saturdays and Sundays, featuring food and craft stalls. We will then stroll down Kirwan's Lane, often termed the medieval heart of Galway, highlighting 16th and 17th-century architecture.

As we conclude, we'll visit The Spanish Arch, built in 1584, originally known as "Ceann an Bhalla." You'll discover the reason for its name change.

Finally, we will cross Salmon Weir Bridge to arrive at Galway Cathedral, marking the end of our 1.5-hour tour.
