Hiking Parco delle Mura
We'll meet at Via Carlo Targa in Genoa to start the hiking route through the Parco delle Mura Natural Area. This area features the longest defensive system in Europe.
Leaving historic downtown Genoa, we will walk to the Zecca-Righi funicular railway, one of the oldest in the city. In just 15 minutes, we'll reach the highest part of the city, setting the stage for exploration.
Parco delle Mura covers about 900 hectares (2,223 acres) and is home to numerous protected species. During our hike, we will also explore the butterfly trail, a dedicated area for these insects.
Along the way, we'll view the Forti della Superba and the Mura Nuove, former military structures designed to protect Genoa from Savoyard attacks. Notably, this is the second longest wall in the world after the Great Wall of China.
To conclude the hike, we'll visit a typical tavern for a breakfast featuring focaccia and crackers. Finally, we'll take the funicular back to Genoa, completing our tour after 4 hours of activity.
