Hiking Parco delle Mura
We'll meet at Via Carlo Targa in Genoa to start a hiking route through the Parco delle Mura Natural Area. We will explore the longest defensive system in Europe.
As we leave the historic downtown of Genoa, we'll walk to the Zecca-Righi funicular railway, one of the oldest in the Ligurian capital. In 15 minutes, we will reach the highest part of the city and arrive at a natural space ready to be explored.
Parco delle Mura spans about 900 hectares (2,223 acres) and provides a habitat for numerous protected species. Keep an eye out for wildlife along our route, including the butterfly trail, which is a dedicated area for their reproduction.
During the hike, we will see the Forti della Superba and the Mura Nuove, both built to defend Genoa from Savoyard attacks. Notably, this wall is the second longest in the world after the Great Wall of China.
To conclude the hiking route, we will visit a typical tavern for a breakfast consisting of focaccia and crackers. We will then take the funicular back to Genoa, wrapping up our tour after 4 hours of activity.
