On this guided tour of the Rolli palaces, we will explore luxurious residences built by rich families in Genoa during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, a period known as the city's Golden Age.
Rolli Palaces Guided Tour
The tour begins at 3 pm on Via Garibaldi, a historic area with a concentration of palaces. The Palazzi dei Rolli were designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2006. This network of mansions was part of a public hospitality system where selected palaces hosted notable visitors for the Genoese government. Celebrities like kings, diplomats, and ambassadors frequented these residences.
During the tour, we will view reception rooms, decorations, and artworks from prominent Genoese artists.
We will first visit Palazzo Rosso, a 17th-century residence with art collections from the Brignole-Sale family. Next, we will head to Nicolosio Lomellino Palace, known as Palazzo Podestà, featuring impressive frescoes and stucco decorations.
Our tour continues to the Palace of Tobia Pallavicino, or Palazzo Carrega-Cataldi, which currently houses the Genoa Chamber of Commerce and significant works by Genoese Baroque artists like Lorenzo de Ferrari.
We will conclude with the Golden Gallery in the Palazzo di Tobia Pallavicini, known for its lavish details, followed by a visit to the Imperial Palace to appreciate its stunning decoration and frescoes.
