The Art Museum is located in one of the most notable buildings in the old town of Girona: the old Episcopal Palace, listed as a Historic-Artistic Site. It conserves several collections from the Bishopric of Girona, the Girona Provincial Council and the art funds of the Generalitat de Catalunya. The collections of Romanesque and Gothic art stand out (with large altarpieces such as Púbol or Cruïlles) and also from the Renaissance (the altarpieces attributed to Joan de Burguña or Pere Mates stand out) as well as works of Catalan painting and sculpture of the centuries XIX and XX (with works by Miquel Blay, the Vayreda brothers, Santiago Rusiñol, Prudenci Bertrana, Mela Muter or Celso Lagar, among others).
The Art Museum is located in the incomparable setting of the old Episcopal Palace, documented for the first time in the s. X. The building still preserves various spaces that respond to its original function, such as the prison, where clergymen convicted by the ecclesiastical court were serving prison sentences, or the majestic garden, which is opened to the public on various occasions throughout the year.
