Gjirokastër Tour
At the indicated time, we'll meet at the centrally located Sheshi Çerçiz Topulli Square to start this guided tour of Gjirokastër.
After an introduction to this town, we'll walk through the cobblestone streets of the Old Bazaar quarter. Here, we'll find the oldest houses of Gjirokastër and appreciate the traditional architecture of the region.
Next, we'll skirt the citadel of Gjirokastër. Its castle was a strategic enclave during the Ottoman era. After learning about its history, we'll cross the Zerzebili bridge to access the neighborhoods of Dunavant and Cfaka. In this district, we'll see the tekkes, buildings of the Islamic brotherhoods from the Bektashi Order.
We'll make the last stop of the tour at the Ali Pasha Bridge, a vestige of the aqueduct built in the 19th century by Ali Pashe Tepelena to bring water to the castle of Gjirokastër.
Finally, after 3 hours of exploring, we'll conclude the guided tour by returning to the initial meeting point.
