Elephanta Caves Tour
We'll meet at 10:30 am in front of the PizzaExpress restaurant. From there, we'll head towards the Gateway of India, where we'll take a ferry to the Elephanta Caves, an architectural and artistic marvel, considered one of the most sacred temples in Bombay.
Upon arrival at this World Heritage Site, we'll visit the galleries of the Shiva Cave, featuring several stone carvings depicting key moments in the life of this Hindu god. The caves are believed to have been built between 810 and 1260 and suffered damage in the 16th century when some statues were used for target practice.
The tour will continue as we explore various sanctuaries and carved passageways. We will stop at the main grotto to admire the great sculpture of Trimurti, dedicated to the three Hindu gods: Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva.
After this insight into Hindu history and culture, we'll return to the ferry and conclude the tour back at the Gateway of India four to five hours after departure.
