Leave the chaos of Mumbai behind and immerse yourself in the tranquillity of the surrounding countryside with this trip to the enigmatic Kanheri caves. Discover the Buddhist sculptures, carvings and paintings which date back more than 2000 years. This is an unmissable adventure for anyone spending a few days in Mumbai.

Kanheri Caves Half Day Tour

Early in the morning, an expert guide will pick you up from your hotel before driving to the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, where the Buddhist caves of Kanheri are found. This area is an oasis of lush vegetation. We drive deeper into the forest until reaching the Kanheri caves, a network of more than 100 caves with wall paintings, engravings, and Buddhist sculptures that were made from the 1st century B.C. to the 10th century A.D.

This place was used by Buddhist monks for meditation and as a place of worship. The caves served as monasteries, meeting rooms, shrines, and study rooms. Our guide will provide information about their history and show significant statues. During the tour, you can enjoy a typical snack from the region. The trip concludes with views over the Sanjay Gandhi National Park from a special location for photography opportunities.
