On this private day trip to the Corralejo tequila factory and the Plazuelas archaeological area, we will explore a route that combines history and cuisine, uncovering the secrets of agave and visiting a site over 2000 years old.
Tequila Factory & Archaeological Site
At the designated time, we will pick you up from your hotel in Guanajuato and travel to Pénjamo, home of the Corralejo factory. Prepare to learn about this tequila factory from the 18th century.
After a 1.5-hour journey, we will arrive at one of the most famous distilleries in Guanajuato. During the guided visit, we will observe the production process of traditional Mexican tequila from agave, covering the harvest, ageing process, ovens, mills, and fermentation. A tasting of this drink is included.
Next, there will be free time for lunch before we board the minibus and head south to the Plazuela archaeological zone. This site features well-preserved pyramids, and we will explain its significance in Mesoamerica as we explore the squares, temples, and palaces.
We will delve into the history of the Chupicuaro culture around the year 800 BC and learn about the Toltecs connected to these ruins.
After a 9-hour tour, the day will conclude back at your hotel.
