Your adventure begins with a pick-up at your selected hotel in Guanajuato at the designated time. We will first visit the acclaimed Museum of the Mummies, where over 56 mummies await. Here, we will discuss their considerable historical significance and the reasons behind their status as a prominent attraction.
Next, we will meander through the narrow colonial lanes until we arrive at La Valenciana mine. Prepare to descend into the mine's corridors, where you will witness the minerals extracted and the tools employed by miners. Did you know that in the 18th century, Guanajuato was recognized as one of the globe's leading silver producers? Join us as we share its fascinating history.
Once back above ground, we will pass by the Cervantina roundabout and the Plaza de las Ranas on our way towards the church of San Cayetano, where we will marvel at the exquisite examples of Churrigueresque architecture and the stunning gold-plated altarpieces within.
Our journey will then lead us to the Museum of the Galeras de la Santa Inquisición, where we will uncover one of the city's more somber historical chapters, highlighting ancient torture instruments employed to punish heresies.
If hunger strikes, we will indulge in some typical sweets before continuing our exploration through the tunnels and underground streets of Guanajuato.
Our next destination will be the Pípila monument, which offers a panoramic view of Guanajuato, while we delve into the life of this crucial figure in the fight for Mexican independence.
After a comprehensive 4 to 5 hour exploration, this guided tour of Guanajuato will conclude in the city center.
