Guanajuato Tour + Mummy Museum
At the scheduled time, we'll collect you from your hotel in Guanajuato. Our first destination will be the iconic Museum of the Mummies, where you'll view over 56 mummies while we discuss their significant historical backgrounds and the reasons behind their status as a major tourist attraction.
Next, we'll meander through quaint colonial lanes until we arrive at La Valenciana mine. Here, we'll descend through the gallery corridors, reaching the underground, where you can observe the minerals extracted and the tools utilized by workers. Did you know that Guanajuato was one of the leading silver mines globally during the 18th century? We'll delve into this fascinating history during our tour.
Returning to the surface, we will pass by the Cervantina roundabout and the Plaza de las Ranas, making our way to the Church of San Cayetano. In this location, we'll admire the stunning gold-laminated altarpieces that exhibit the beautiful Churrigueresque style. The intricate details will leave you in awe!
Our next stop will be the Museo de Galeras de la Santa Inquisición, where we'll uncover the grim realities of one of the darkest periods in the city’s history, witnessing ancient instruments of torture used for the punishment of heresy.
Feeling hungry yet? We'll indulge in some traditional sweets before continuing our exploration through the tunnels and subterranean streets of Guanajuato.
Our journey will then take us to the Pípila monument, which offers a breathtaking panoramic view of Guanajuato while we learn about the significant historical figure linked to Mexican independence.
After approximately 4 to 5 hours of extensive sightseeing, our tour of Guanajuato will conclude in the heart of the city.
