On this excursion to Almeida, Castelo Mendo and Castelo Rodrigo, we'll visit these three historical villages of Portugal and learn about their legends.
Description
At the indicated time, we'll meet at Praça Luís de Camões in Guarda and start a tour of Portugal's historic villages.
First, we'll head to Almeida, a village noted for its fortifications. We will take a guided tour of the old town, exploring attractions such as the Gate of St. Francis, the Squadrons' Barracks, the Church of Mercy, and the Gate of St. Anthony.
Next, we'll visit Castelo Mendo, an ancient town with a medieval appearance. We'll stroll through its streets and see the old fortress, notable for its wall and ruined church. We will also explore the new fortress of Castelo Mendo, known as Arrabal de San Pedro, and learn about its history, particularly the impact of the 1755 earthquake.
Finally, we will visit Castelo Rodrigo, located on a hill and marked by its history of territorial disputes. After experiencing the beauty of Castelo Rodrigo, we'll return to the starting point, concluding the tour after 4 hours.
