Cajas National Park Hiking Experience
Good morning! At 6:30 am, we will collect you from your hotel in Guayaquil to begin our journey to the Cajas National Park, situated within the Andes Mountains. Upon arrival, we will initiate our 4-hour hiking experience.
We will traverse the García Moreno trail, where you can observe the divided waters, with some streams heading towards the Amazon while others flow to the Pacific Ocean. Local legends recount tales of adventurous hikers who sought to spend the night but were thwarted by the park's frigid temperatures.
Your adventure continues as we ascend to an elevation exceeding 6,560 feet (2,000 metres), allowing for splendid views of the mystical forests, the moorlands, and the stunning Chorro de Plata Waterfall. This magnificent waterfall, cascading nearly 300 feet (90 metres), is truly a sight to behold. We will also identify medicinal plants along our path and discuss their curative qualities.
As we navigate through the trails, expect to encounter ferns, orchids, mosses, and, with a stroke of luck, spot caracaras, hummingbirds, toucans, and the impressive Andean condor. After covering approximately 6 miles (10 kilometres), we will return to our starting point.
Finally, we will make our way back to your hotel in Guayaquil, where we anticipate arriving around 2:30 pm.
