On this guided tour of Haarlem, we will discover the history of one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands.
Description
At the scheduled time, we will meet at 3 Lepelstraat to begin the guided tour of Haarlem. We will explore the must-see sights of this medieval city, which has remained largely unchanged over time.
From the Grote Markt, in Haarlem's main square, you can view the façade of St. Bavo's Cathedral, a prime example of Dutch Gothic architecture. Adjacent to the cathedral is a sculpture honoring Laurens Janszoon Coster, a key figure in the history of printing.
We will then stroll through the city's streets, revealing its history. Haarlem’s residents were among the first settlers of New York, with a neighborhood still known as Harlem in the Big Apple.
We'll discuss historical events and notable figures while visiting iconic landmarks like the Amsterdamse Poort, an entrance to the old city wall, and the exterior of the Teyler Museum, which served as a refuge for Jews during the Second World War.
Additionally, we will examine Spain's connections with Haarlem and explain why this city is recognized as the City of Flowers. The tour will conclude after 2 hours, ending in the city center.
