On this guided tour of Haarlem, we will explore the history of one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands, which has inspired artists for centuries.
Description
We will meet at 3 Lepelstraat at the designated time to begin the guided tour of Haarlem. This tour includes must-see sights of the medieval city that has remained largely unchanged.
Starting at the Grote Markt, in Haarlem's main square, we'll view the façade of St. Bavo's Cathedral, an example of Dutch Gothic architecture. Adjacent is a sculpture honoring Laurens Janszoon Coster, a pioneer of printing.
As we stroll through the city streets, we will discuss its history, including its inhabitants being the first settlers of New York, which still has a neighborhood named Harlem.
We will highlight important monuments like the Amsterdamse Poort, one of the old city wall entrances, and the Teyler Museum, a refuge for Jews during the Second World War.
Additionally, we will explore Spain's connections with Haarlem and uncover why it is known as the City of Flowers. You will gain extensive knowledge throughout the tour.
After 2 hours of sightseeing, the guided tour of Haarlem will conclude in the city center.
