In a brief 10-minute ride across Halifax's waters, we will reach the port of Georges Island. Once you disembark, you'll have the freedom to wander the island, ensuring you experience all it has to offer! This site is home to the remarkable Fort Warren and hosts one of the largest Civil War recreations found in the nation.

Established in 1833, the fort was designed to defend the region during wartime. Alongside diving into the area's rich history, we suggest exploring the island's wooded areas. You will be treated to stunning vistas of the Halifax coastline from a fresh vantage point.

To make your way back from Georges Island to Halifax, simply catch any ferry leaving from the island's dock. Remember that the ferry service between Georges Island and Halifax operates from 10:20 am until 3 pm, with departures occurring every 40 minutes.

The National Historic Site of Georges Island welcomes visitors on the following days and times:

June 8 to 30, 2024: Saturdays and Sundays from 10 am to 3 pm.July 4 to September 1, 2024: Available Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 10 am to 3 pm.September 7 to October 31, 2024: Open on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 am to 3 pm.
