Discover Hanover's rich history on this walking tour, exploring medieval architecture and iconic landmarks such as Leineschloss, the Opera House and more!

Historic Hanover Guided Tour

At the indicated time, we’ll meet at Ernst-August-Platz 8 in Hanover for a walking tour of this historic city.

As we explore, we’ll pass sites marked by the devastation of World War II. By the war’s end, an astounding 90% of Hanover’s city centre had been destroyed.

Our first stop will be the Leineschloss, a former residence of kings and dukes, now home to the Lower Saxony state parliament. Built in 1637, this castle has undergone numerous renovations; we’ll learn about its history as we admire its exterior.

Continuing through Hanover’s Old Town, we’ll see the city’s iconic half-timbered medieval houses and discover hidden corners with cosy pubs and cafés.

Next, we’ll visit the New Town Hall, an architectural marvel completed in 1913 after 12 years of construction, designed by Herman Eggert and Gustav Halmhuber.

We’ll also explore the Hanover Opera House, a venue with 1,202 seats. Originally built in 1852, it was heavily damaged during World War II but has been beautifully restored.

Finally, after 2 hours, we'll conclude the tour back at the starting point.
