Discover Hanover's rich history on this walking tour, exploring medieval architecture and iconic landmarks such as Leineschloss, the Opera House and more!

Historic Hanover Guided Tour

At the indicated time, we’ll meet at Ernst-August-Platz 8 to begin a walking tour of this historic city.

As we explore, we will encounter sites marked by the devastation of World War II, which resulted in the destruction of 90% of Hanover’s city centre by the war’s end.

Our first stop will be the Leineschloss, a former residence of kings and dukes, now housing the Lower Saxony state parliament. Built in 1637, the castle has undergone many renovations—its history will be discussed as we admire its exterior.

Continuing through Old Town, we’ll see the city's iconic half-timbered medieval houses and discover hidden pubs and cafés.

Next, we’ll visit the New Town Hall, an architectural landmark designed by Herman Eggert and Gustav Halmhuber. Completed in 1913 after 12 years of construction, its imposing structure is notable.

Afterwards, we’ll view the Hanover Opera House, which seats 1,202. Originally built in 1852, it was heavily damaged in World War II but has since been beautifully restored.

The tour will conclude after approximately 2 hours back at the starting point.
