Historic Hanover Guided Tour
We’ll meet at Ernst-August-Platz 8 to start a walking tour of Hanover.
As we explore, we'll see sites marked by the devastation of World War II, noting that 90% of Hanover’s city centre was destroyed by the war’s end.
Our first stop will be the Leineschloss, formerly a residence of kings and dukes, now the Lower Saxony state parliament. Built in 1637, it has undergone numerous renovations, and we’ll learn about its history as we admire its exterior.
Continuing through Hanover’s Old Town, we’ll view the city’s half-timbered medieval houses and discover hidden pubs and cafés.
Next, we’ll visit the New Town Hall, completed in 1913 after 12 years of construction, featuring a grand design by Herman Eggert and Gustav Halmhuber.
After that, we’ll check out the Hanover Opera House, seating 1,202, which was originally built in 1852 and heavily damaged in World War II. It has been beautifully restored and features a classical façade.
The tour lasts a total of 2 hours and concludes back at the starting point.
