Historic Hanover Guided Tour
At the indicated time, we’ll meet at Ernst-August-Platz 8, right in the heart of Hanover, to embark on a walking tour of this historic city.
As we explore, we'll feel as if we're stepping back in time, passing sites marked by the devastation of World War II. By the war’s end, an astonishing 90% of Hanover’s city centre had been destroyed.
Our first stop will be the Leineschloss, a former residence of kings and dukes, now home to the Lower Saxony state parliament. Built in 1637, this castle has seen numerous renovations, and we'll hear about its history as we admire its exterior.
As we continue through Hanover’s Old Town, we’ll take in the city’s iconic half-timbered medieval houses and discover hidden corners with cosy pubs and quaint cafés.
Next is the New Town Hall, an architectural marvel completed in 1913 after a 12 years of construction. Its grand design by Herman Eggert and Gustav Halmhuber is impressive.
We’ll also visit the Hanover Opera House, seating 1,202. Originally built in 1852, it was heavily damaged in World War II but has been beautifully restored.
Finally, after a total of 2 hours, we'll end the tour back at the starting point.
