Haputale Tea Plantation Hiking Tour
On this hiking tour to a Haputale tea plantation, we will hike 14 km through forests. We will see various plants and animals, and you can assist in picking tea leaves.
Early in the morning, we will meet at Haputale train station for a 1.5-hour train ride to Ohiya.
From Ohiya train station, we will start trekking, walking for about 30 minutes to reach a panoramic viewpoint of the tea plantation. Then, we will proceed for another half hour to our destination.
We will meet the family managing the tea plantation, who will provide a tour of their land and products made from the tea plant. You will have the opportunity to see how the tea leaves are picked and participate in the harvest.
After saying goodbye to the family, we will walk through eucalyptus and pine forests, following the train tracks and passing through tunnels under the mountains.
Next, we will have a picnic lunch and continue through the Thangamale bird sanctuary, enjoying views of the mountain and the Uva Basin. Expect to see various bird species.
We will conclude our tour after walking a total of 8.7 miles (14 km) and take the train back to Haputale, finishing at the station after a 6-hour experience.
