Ciénaga de Zapata National Park Day Trip
We will pick you up from your hotel in Havana at the scheduled time to start our day trip to the Ciénaga de Zapata National Park. The 2-hour drive leads to the largest wetland in the insular Caribbean. Upon arrival at this UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, we will embark on a 1.5-mile (2.5-kilometre) hike, exploring unique fauna and flora along one of Cuba's main freshwater reserves.
We will observe the mangroves, vital for coastline protection, which host 258 species of birds, 43 types of reptiles, and 15 mammals. This includes 5 endemic species and 16 endangered species.
This area is also suitable for birdwatching. We may spot Zapata wrens, Santo Tomás hens, Cuban emeralds, hummingbirds, long-tailed hawks, Cuban parakeets, marsh spindalises, herons, flamingos, and cranes.
We will make a stop for a swim in the Cenotes de Cristal on the Zapata peninsula, followed by a typical Cuban lunch.
The day trip will conclude with your drop-off at your hotel in Havana after 11 hours of activities.
