Join us on this architectural journey through Helsinki, where we will explore the unique character of the Finnish capital by visiting renowned structures, including the National Library, Cathedral, and the Pohjola.
Description
At the designated time, we will gather at Aleksanterinkatu Street to kick off this engaging architecture tour in Helsinki. Prepare to unveil the fascinating stories behind the city’s most significant landmarks.
As we traverse the urban landscape, we will delve into the transformation of Helsinki over the years and how these shifts are mirrored in its architecture. Throughout our walk, a stunning variety of styles will unfold before us, including neoclassicism, Nordic classicism, modernism, and Art Deco, among others.
Our first stops will include the National Library of Finland and the Helsinki Cathedral. While appreciating their stunning exteriors, we will reflect on their creation during the 19th century and the historical context surrounding their construction.
Subsequently, we will explore the Pohjola building and enter the Jugendsal Room, excellent illustrations of Finnish National Romantic architecture. We will uncover the intricate details within! Additionally, our tour will feature the Academic Library and the iconic Eliel Saarinen train station.
After a captivating 3-hour journey, we will conclude our tour outside the Central Library Oodi.
