If you're passionate about the history of early civilisations, this excursion from Heraklion, Gortyna, Phaistos, Matala and Zaros will explore the Minoan civilisation.

Tour Details

We will meet in front of Hari's Creperie at the designated time. The journey begins with visits to Gortyna, Phaistos, and Zaros, delving into the history of the ancient Minoan civilisation while exploring important sites in Crete.

First, we will visit Gortyna, the Roman capital of Crete, first inhabited around 3200 BC. Here, we will explore its impressive ruins and learn about this historical location.

Next, we will drive through The Mesara Plain to the archaeological site of Phaistos, known as the heart of the Minoan civilisation, once the richest and most powerful city in southern Crete.

From Phaistos, we will proceed to Matala Beach, where you will have around 2 hours of free time for swimming and lunch at seaside restaurants.

Lastly, we will arrive in Zaros, famous for its spring water, ideal for nature lovers. The views of the lake will be remarkable.

The excursion will conclude at our original meeting point 10 hours after the start of the tour.
