Heraklion Food Tour
At the scheduled time, we'll meet by the Statue of the Unknown Soldier in Eleftherias Square. Once everyone has arrived, we'll begin our food tour of Heraklion to explore Cretan culinary traditions.
As we walk through Heraklion's historic center, we will make a total of 8 stops to sample a variety of traditional products and learn about their production. We will discuss the unique aspects of Cretan gastronomy compared to other Mediterranean diets while exploring the main neighborhoods.
The tour will start with a sip of Greek coffee, highlighting its cultural significance. Participants will also learn about "cup-reading" to interpret coffee grounds. We will also taste a bougatsa cake from Heraklion.
Next, we will visit a local market to taste olives, cheese, biscuits, and Cretan olive oil. Throughout the tour, we will interact with bakers, fishmongers, butchers, and cheesemongers, gaining insights into Cretan cuisine.
Our gastronomic journey will also include organic meats, fried snails, and Cretan wines. After 4 hours of exploration and tasting, the tour will conclude at the starting point.
