Heraklion Food Tour
At the scheduled time, we'll meet by the Statue of the Unknown Soldier in Eleftherias Square. Once everyone's arrived, we'll start our food tour of Heraklion and explore Cretan culinary traditions.
As we traverse Heraklion's historic center, we will make a total of 8 stops to sample some of the island's traditional products and learn about their preparation methods. Discussions will include what sets Cretan gastronomy apart from other Mediterranean diets.
The tour will commence with a Greek coffee, highlighting its cultural significance. We will also engage in "cup-reading" to interpret coffee grounds. Additionally, we will enjoy a bougatsa cake from Heraklion.
Next, we will visit a local market to taste olives, cheese, biscuits, and Cretan olive oil. During this portion, we will interact with bakers, fishmongers, butchers, and cheesemongers, who will provide insights into Cretan cuisine.
Our experience will also include organic meats, fried snails, and Cretan wines. After 4 hours of exploration and tasting, we will conclude our food tour back at the starting point.
