On this day trip to Matala, we'll visit beaches and one of the most famous hippie colonies in Europe. Matala is noted for its significance in Greek mythology.
Day Trip Details
We'll pick you up at the scheduled time to cross the plain of Messara towards Matala. This site gained fame in the 60s.
First, we'll explore this location, which served as a port for the Romans and Minoans, and learn about how Matala became a hippie colony with members living in caves carved into the rock during the Roman period.
Additionally, we will discuss the mythological history of this site, where, according to Greek tradition, the god Zeus abducted the Phoenician princess Europa in the form of a white bull.
You'll have four hours of free time in Matala to enjoy its beaches, especially the Red and Kommos beaches; explore craft stalls, sample local cuisine, and visit the famous sandstone caves inhabited by hippies.
Finally, we'll reconvene to return to the starting point, arriving eight hours after pickup.
