On this day trip to Matala, we'll explore beautiful beaches and one of the most renowned hippie colonies in Europe, significant in Greek mythology.
Day Trip Details
We will pick you up at the scheduled time to travel through the plain of Messara towards Matala, which gained fame in the 60s.
Our first stop will be at this historical site, used as a port by the Romans and Minoans, to learn about Matala's hippie colony, where inhabitants occupied rock-carved caves during the Roman era.
Additionally, we will discuss the mythological significance, where, according to Greek tradition, the god Zeus abducted Phoenician princess Europa in the form of a white bull.
You will have four hours of free time in Matala for various activities, including enjoying the pristine beaches, notably the Red and Kommos beaches, browsing through craft stalls, sampling local cuisine, and visiting the notable sandstone caves associated with the hippie culture.
Finally, we will reconvene to return to the starting point, arriving eight hours after pickup.
