On this day trip to Rethymno from Heraklion, we will explore the medieval history of Rethymno and visit the Arkadi Monastery.
Tour Details
We will meet at the Heraklion Archaeological Museum and start the excursion to Rethymno and the Arkadi Monastery. Our first stop will be Margarites, known for its pottery tradition, where we will walk through its alleys to appreciate the architecture.
Next, we will visit the Arkadi Monastery, a significant historical site recognized for its Venetian architecture in Romanesque and Baroque style. We will discuss its historical importance during the Ottoman period.
Afterward, we will continue to Rethymno, noted as one of the island's most beautiful cities. We will walk through the old town to reach the Fortress located on Paleokastro hill, which offers panoramic views of the area.
Following our historical exploration, we will return along the northern coast by the Cretan Sea, passing scenic coastal villages like Bali, Fodele, and Agia Pelagia.
We will conclude the trip 9.5 hours after the start at the initial meeting point.
