On this day trip to Rethymno from Heraklion, we explore the medieval history of a beautiful Cretan town and visit the historical Arkadi Monastery.
Tour Details
We will meet at the Heraklion Archaeological Museum at the designated time to begin our day trip to Rethymno and the Arkadi Monastery.
Our first stop will be in Margarites, a village known for its pottery tradition. We will take a short walk through its alleys to appreciate its architecture.
Next, we will proceed to the Arkadi Monastery, a historic site representing freedom for Cretans from the Ottoman period. The monastery features Venetian architecture in Romanesque and Baroque style.
Our tour will continue in Rethymno, where we will walk through the old town to the Fortress atop the Paleokastro hill, which offers panoramic views of the city.
After exploring, we will return along the northern coast of the island, passing the coastal villages of Bali, Fodele, and Agia Pelagia.
