On this day trip to Rethymno from Heraklion, we will explore the medieval heritage of Rethymno and visit the historic Arkadi Monastery.
Tour Details
We will meet at the indicated time in front of the Heraklion Archaeological Museum to commence the day trip to Rethymno and the Arkadi Monastery.
Our first stop will be Margarites, a village known for its pottery tradition, where we will take a short walk through its charming alleys to appreciate its architecture.
Next, we will visit the Arkadi Monastery, a historic site symbolizing freedom during the Ottoman period. Its Venetian architecture includes Romanesque and Baroque styles, and we will provide insights into its historical significance.
Continuing to Rethymno, we will walk through the old town to the Fortress on Paleokastro hill, which offers panoramic views of the city.
After this historical journey, we will return along the northern coast, passing through the beautiful villages of Bali, Fodele, and Agia Pelagia.
We will conclude our tour 9.5 hours after starting at the original meeting point.
