Discover the most amazing facts about the pre-Roman tribes of northern Spain with this guided tour of the Cantabrian settlement of Argüeso.
Argüeso Guided Tour
We'll be waiting for you at the Cantabrian settlement of Argüeso at the time of your choice for a guided tour of this open-air museum. A route to the past where you'll learn about the constructions and customs of the Iron Age.
We'll enter an enclosure surrounded by stone and wooden walls which houses seven huts, reflecting the way of life between the 7th and 1st centuries BC. Each dwelling is a replica of the fortified settlements of Barones, La Ulaña, Cildá and Monte Bernorio.
We'll explore the materials used to build these houses and see reproductions of falcatas swords, daggers, helmets, shields, and belts from the period. Additionally, we will see more refined pieces of pottery due to the Celtiberian influence. It is noted that at least eight Roman legions were required to defeat the Cantabrian tribes.
During the tour, we'll also admire a replica of the Zurita stele, a unique indigenous piece that has generated numerous hypotheses. The guide’s explanations will provide deeper insights.
