Sonoran Desert Mission Churches 4-Day Tour

On this 4-day tour through the Jesuit Missions of Sonora, we'll explore temples and towns established by Eusebio Francisco Kino and other missionaries in Mexico.

Sonoran Desert Mission Churches 4-Day Tour

Day 1: Hermosillo - Caborca

We will meet at Hermosillo Airport and travel to Trincheras. After lunch at a local restaurant, we will visit the archaeological site of Cerro De Trincheras from the 14th and 15th centuries. Next, we travel to Caborca, founded by Eusebio Francisco Kino in 1693. We will see the Franciscan Church of the Immaculate Conception, Plaza de Armas, and Cerro de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe. Afterward, you can check in to the hotel and enjoy dinner at your leisure.

Day 2: Caborca - Magdalena de Kino

After breakfast, we will visit Rancho La Proveedora to see ancient petroglyphs. A picnic bag will be provided for lunch. We will then embark on the Ruta de las Misiones, visiting Pitiquito, Altar, Oquitoa, Atil, Tubutama, and San Ignacio. Later, we will explore Magdalena de Kino, including Casa del Ministro de Guerra, Colegio Colonel Fenochio, the colonial home of Dr. Jacinto Padilla, and the Church of Our Lady of Fatima. The day concludes with a traditional dinner.

Day 3: Magdalena de Kino

After breakfast, we will travel to Cucurpe to visit the abandoned mission of Cucurpe. We will return to Magdalena de Kino for lunch and then visit the crypt of Father Kino, Chapel of San Francisco Javier, Plaza Juarez, and the train station. Finally, we will explore the mission of San Ignacio de Cabórica before enjoying dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 4: Magdalena de Kino - Hermosillo

On our last day, after breakfast, we will visit the municipal cemetery and the mausoleum of Luis Donaldo Colosio. We will then head to Hermosillo, arriving at the airport around 2 pm.
