Faial Whaling Tradition Tour

At 9 am, we'll meet at Largo Dr. Manuel de Arriaga in Horta, where we'll hop on a bus to depart from the capital of the island of Faial and head to the coast.

On this tour, we'll explore the whaling tradition of Faial, the fifth largest island in the Azores. We'll visit lookout points along the south coast, such as the Lajinha, Morro de Castelo Branco, and Varadouro viewpoints, while observing whales and other species, including dolphins, as we approach the Capelhinos volcano.

There will be a break for a picnic lunch, followed by site visits to old whaling ship docking points, harbors, lighthouses, and other significant locations for sailing. The tour will conclude with a visit to the Whale Museum, where we will see skeletons of these large mammals and other artifacts related to whaling traditions.

We'll return to the starting point between 4 and 5 pm.
