Horta Guided Tour
We will meet at Largo Dr. Manuel de Arriaga to start our guided tour of Horta, the capital of Faial. Horta is one of the three capitals of the Azores archipelago, along with Angra do Heroísmo and Ponta Delgada.
The tour will begin with a discussion about the Infante Dom Henrique, known as the Navigator. We will visit the bust of him in the garden named after him and then proceed to the Town Market.
After the market, we will explore the city streets, particularly Ribeira da Conceição, leading us to the churches of Carmen and Salvador, where we will observe elements of Azorean Baroque religious architecture.
Next, we will stop at the Prince Albert of Monaco Observatory for stunning views of Horta, followed by a visit to Port Pim, home to museums and historical buildings.
Finally, we will visit the Santa Cruz fort, which defended the southern bay from pirate attacks. The tour will conclude at the meeting point, approximately three to four hours after starting.
