Do you have a sweet tooth? In this muéganos-making workshop, we'll learn the history and how this typical delicacy of traditional Huamantlan cuisine is made. Tasty!
Cooking Workshop in Huamantla
We'll meet at the selected time at the hotel Las Candelas to go to an artisan workshop where muéganos, a traditional Mexican pastry, is made in Huamantla.
These small honey-coated delicacies have their origins in the Arab culture. Similar to marzipan and nougat, these recipes crossed the Mediterranean into Europe and later merged with Spanish cuisine. During the colonization of the Americas, conquistadors introduced them to Mexican populations.
In this muéganos workshop, we will learn about the history of this traditional sweet and attend a class to see how it's made. Afterwards, participants will prepare the muéganos. In 2020, the muéganos of Huamantla were declared Cultural and Gastronomic Heritage of the state of Tlaxcala.
We will conclude the workshop by tasting the muéganos we cooked. After an hour and a half, we will wrap up the activity and say our goodbyes.
