In this corn tortilla-making class, participants will learn about the significance of this key element in Mexican cuisine and will engage in hands-on tortilla making.
Tortilla-Making Class
Tlaxcala translates to "place of the corn tortilla" in Quechua, highlighting the cultural importance of corn tortillas in the Mexican state, specifically in the city of Huamantla, where this activity will take place.
Participants will meet at hotel Las Candelas, followed by a visit to a local site where the history of corn cultivation in the region and the origin of corn tortillas will be discussed. Attendees will observe 10 different varieties of organic corn cultivated locally, learning about their use in tortilla recipes.
Following the presentation, a workshop will allow participants to make their own corn tortillas using the knowledge acquired. The session will conclude with a tasting of local corn products.
After an hour and a half of immersive learning about this fundamental aspect of Mexican cuisine, the class will conclude with farewells.
