Discover the stunning waterfalls and lagoons that define some of the most spectacular landscapes in Peru on this excursion through the Nor Yauyos-Cochas Landscape Reserve.
Description
We will gather at the appointed time in Plaza Huamanmarca in Huancayo, from where we will board a minibus heading towards an exceptionally beautiful natural area. The early departure will undoubtedly be rewarding!
After approximately an hour of travel, we'll take a pause for breakfast, allowing us to prepare ourselves for the magnificent wild beauty of the Nor Yauyos-Cochas Landscape Reserve, which spans over 200,000 hectares (49,421 acres).
Our initial stop within the reserve, known as Abra Negro Bueno or Negro Bueno Pass, presents a stunning vista of the High Andean lagoons from an elevation exceeding 4,600 meters (15,091 feet).
The adventure continues as we make our way through the charming village of Villa de Tomás, where we will learn about some local traditions. After exploring this quaint settlement located in the heart of the reserve, we will proceed to the Cañón de Uchco, where a brief 10-minute walk allows us to take in the impressive gorge and its breathtaking surroundings.
Next, we will reach Huancaya, the birthplace of the first lagoons and enchanting waterfalls of Nor Yauyos-Cochas. Here, we’ll traverse colonial bridges and lookout points to capture the most stunning views of the reserve. Be sure to have your camera ready! Following a 25-minute walk, we’ll arrive at Laguna Huallhua, one of the key highlights of this journey. Those interested can arrange a personal boat ride across the lagoon to visit the Huallhua waterfalls.
As hunger strikes, we’ll head back to Huancaya for a leisurely one-hour break during which you can explore nearby dining options to sample local dishes. Afterward, we will return to Huancayo, concluding our adventure around 16 hours after we originally set off.
