Huelva: On the Trail of Christopher Columbus
Having been picked up from your chosen pickup point, you'll begin your tour of the "lugares colombinos", the historic route of places in the province of Huelva that were visited by Columbus. Your expert local guide will explain the history of the ancient fishing town of Palos de la Frontera.
In Palos de la Frontera, you'll visit the 13th century Franciscan monastery known as La Rábida Friary, where Columbus stayed after his expedition request was rejected by the royals in 1490. It has been a Spanish National Monument since 1856.
Next, you'll go to the Wharf of the Caravels, a museum dedicated to Columbus' journey, featuring full-size replicas of the three ships from the first voyage: the Pinta, Niña, and Santa María. Here, you can also visit the Isla del Encuentro, a recreation of scenes from the "New World".
After exploring Columbus' trail around Huelva, you'll be returned to the pickup point in the city centre.
