Spend the day exploring one of the main towns on the coast of Tarapacá on our day trip to Pisagua. You'll learn about the War of the Pacific, a significant conflict in South America in the 19th century.

Pisagua Day Trip

Between 8 and 9 am, we will pick you up from your hotel in Iquique and head northbound for the town of Pisagua.

This coastal town, in the Chilean region of Tarapacá, was crucial during the War of the Pacific, which occurred between 1879 and 1884, involving Chile against a Peruvian-Bolivian alliance.

During the tour, you will learn about the history of the war, focusing on the Battle of San Francisco (or Dolores), part of the Tarapacá campaign. The itinerary includes visiting the cemetery by the sea, marked by its wooden crosses, and a monument commemorating the landing and combat in Pisagua on 2 November 1879.

You will also discover the town's role in the saltpetre industry while admiring 19th-century wooden buildings. A stop at a local restaurant will allow you to enjoy the local gastronomy. Post-lunch, we will continue learning about Pisagua, which served as a detention center in the 20th century and is now a symbol of human rights.

Finally, you will be returned to your hotel in Iquique, arriving around 7 pm.
