Spend the day exploring one of the main towns on the coast of Tarapacá on our day trip to Pisagua. You'll learn about the War of the Pacific, a significant conflict in 19th century South America.

Pisagua Day Trip

Between 8 and 9 am, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Iquique and set off northbound for the town of Pisagua.

This coastal town, located in the Chilean region of Tarapacá, was a crucial site in the War of the Pacific, which occurred from 1879 to 1884 between Chile and a Peruvian-Bolivian alliance.

During our tour, we'll examine the history of this war and its significant episode, the Battle of San Francisco (or Dolores), during the Tarapacá campaign. We'll visit the cemetery by the sea and observe the wooden crosses that remain.

Our tour will also include the monument dedicated to the landing and combat of Pisagua on 2 November 1879. We'll learn about this history and stroll through the town to explore its background in the saltpetre industry while admiring the 19th-century wooden buildings.

We'll pause at a local restaurant for lunch to sample local gastronomy. After lunch, we will continue to discover Pisagua's history, including its past as a detention center in the 20th century, now a symbol of human rights defense.

We'll take you back to your hotel in Iquique, dropping you off at 7 pm.
