Tour Overview
We'll convene at 426 Calvo de Araujo Street at the designated time to kick off this in-depth journey through Iquitos. This tour will take us through the city’s landmark sites along the banks of the Amazon River, shedding light on its rich historical background.
As we navigate the historic district of Iquitos, we’ll marvel at the grandeur of mansions adorned with imported European tiles, remnants of the rubber boom that fueled the city’s prosperity in the late 1800s.
During our walk, we’ll spot the iconic Casa de Fierro, a structure conceived by Gustave Eiffel, renowned for designing the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Our exploration will lead us to the Museum of Indigenous Amazonian Cultures, where we'll admire a variety of crafts, textiles, and artifacts from the region's diverse ethnic groups.
Next, we’ll immerse ourselves in the vibrant atmosphere of the Mercado de Belén, a bustling market brimming with local culture, allowing us to experience the daily rhythms of the people. Here, you can find an abundance of fresh produce, seafood, and meat products—everything you might need!
After enjoying an hour of leisure time for lunch at a nearby eatery, we'll hop on a minibus for a brief ride to the Amazonian Aquarium. Situated just outside the city, the aquarium features a wide array of fish species endemic to the local rivers, including those from Loreto, and showcases both diurnal and nocturnal fish. The star attraction of our visit will undoubtedly be the electric eels.
After a full 8 hours of exploration, we will return to the point of departure.
