When in Iquitos, seize the opportunity to embark on a day excursion to Monkey Island. This adventure will take you through the Itaya and Amazon Rivers, where you can observe wildlife in the Peruvian jungle.
Day Trip Overview
At the scheduled time, we will pick you up from your hotel located in central Iquitos and proceed to the Nanay pier. Here, you’ll board a boat for a memorable ride along the Amazon River. Are you ready to immerse yourself in nature?
As we drift smoothly along the Itaya and Amazon rivers, take advantage of this ideal route to uncover the secrets of these waterways and appreciate the abundant flora and fauna that thrive here. Our first destination will be a local breeding center, featuring various native species including black and white caimans, aquatic turtles, the majestic giant paiches, and the striking Victoria Regias, the largest water lilies globally.
Afterward, we’ll return to the boat and continue to our next location. Here, we’ll venture on a short trek through the jungle, leading us to a Yagua ethnic group community. The locals will share their traditional dances, music, language, and customs, offering us valuable insights into their lifestyle.
Post this enriching cultural experience, we’ll proceed up the Amazon River toward Monkey Island. Feeling hungry? Enjoy a traditional meal onboard, featuring 'Juane Amazónico'—a dish made with rice, chicken, olives, and egg, all wrapped in bijao leaves, served with salads, tropical fruits, and water.
Refreshed and energized, we'll arrive at the remarkable Monkey Island, also called Isla Rolling. This initiative focuses on the care and rehabilitation of various primate species before they are released back into their natural environment.
Once there, we will disembark and discover this sanctuary, learning about the monkeys that receive daily care on the island. You’ll have the chance to interact with them, including feeding, making it a memorable experience!
As we make our way back, take in the stunning Amazonian sunset, and if fortune favors us, we might even spot the famous pink dolphins swimming in the river.
Ultimately, we will return to Iquitos, concluding our day trip back at your hotel after 9 hours immersed in the essence of Peruvian nature.
