Silk Road traders had to cross punishing terrain such as the vast Maranjab Desert. Where did they take refuge when there was a sandstorm? We'll soon find out, as at 8 am we will pick you up from your hotel in Kashan and set off northbound to the extensive, desolate lands of the Maranjab Desert.

Throughout the journey along Maranjab Road, we will admire a sandy, barren landscape scattered with dunes, rocks, and a large salt lake that glimmers in the vastness of the terrain. Suddenly, in the middle of nowhere, we will see a large fortress-like building: the Maranjab Caravanserai: a 17th-century building that was built as a refuge for the caravans that crossed the desert during their trade journey between the East and the West.

We will rest next to the Caravanserai and recharge. We recommend bringing a picnic lunch. Then we will continue our desert safari heading towards the salt island that emerges from between the dunes. Can any living thing survive in these harsh conditions? We'll find out as we approach its shores.

After watching the afternoon sun gradually taint the dunes of the Maranjab Desert, we will make our way back to your hotel in Kashan at 5 pm.
