Silk Road traders had to cross punishing terrain such as the vast Maranjab Desert. Where did they take refuge when there was a sandstorm? We'll soon find out, as at 8 am we'll pick you up from your hotel in Kashan and set off northbound, to the extensive, desolate lands of the Maranjab Desert.

Throughout the journey along Maranjab Road, we'll admire a sandy, barren landscape scattered with dunes, rocks, and a large salt lake that glimmers in the vastness of the terrain. Suddenly, in the middle of nowhere, we'll see the large fortress-like building: the Maranjab Caravanserai: a 17th-century structure that served as refuge for caravans crossing the desert during trade journeys between the East and the West.

We'll rest next to the Caravanserai and let you recharge. We recommend bringing a picnic lunch. Then we'll continue our desert safari heading towards the salt island that emerges from between the dunes. Can any living thing survive in these harsh conditions? We'll find out as we approach its shores.

After watching the afternoon sun gradually taint the dunes of the Maranjab Desert, we'll make our way back to your hotel in Kashan at 5 pm.
