Activity Details
After collecting you from your hotel at the indicated time, we'll start our tour of Easter Island traveling along the East coast.
First, we visit the archaeological site of Ahu Akahanga, where you'll see the remains of a settlement and the tomb of King Hotu Matu'a. Your guide will narrate the story of this mythical king.
Next, we stop at Ahu Tongariki, the largest sanctuary on Easter Island. The 15 moai here were destroyed during the tribal wars of the 18th century but were restored in the 90s. You can admire the restored moai, which represent the height of the Rapanui culture.
We will then travel to the volcanic crater of Rano Raraku, home to the quarry where most moai were sculpted. Here, we will walk along the side of the crater and discover the unfinished moai scattered around, including ‘El Gigante,’ which would have measured 70 feet high and weighed around 270 tonnes when finished.
We will take a break for lunch in this setting. You can bring your own food or book a packed lunch that includes a sandwich, hard-boiled egg, nuts, cereal bar, fruit, and a bottle of mineral water.
After lunch, we will visit the smaller sanctuary of Ahu Te Pito Kura, and then reach Anakena beach to admire the moai of Ahu Nau Nau before concluding the tour and returning to your hotel after seven hours.
